Carnival
The Platja d'Aro Carnival is one of the most notable and eagerly awaited festivals on the Costa Brava, attracting thousands of visitors from all over Catalonia and beyond. Usually held around February, this carnival is characterised by its wide variety of activities and the active participation of local residents and organisations.
The highlight is the grand parade of floats, in which different troupes and groups of friends present spectacular creations, both in design and theme. These floats, laden with colours, music and costumes, parade through the streets of the town, accompanied by troupes dancing and celebrating the arrival of the carnival. The festival is celebrated in the streets with a great atmosphere, from the most original costumes to the dances and concerts that liven up the nights in Platja d'Aro.
One of the characteristics that makes the Platja d'Aro Carnival unique is its popular participation. Schools, associations and even local businesses are actively involved in organising the festival. In addition, other events are held, such as the grand burial of the sardine, a symbolic moment in which the festival is bid farewell to make way for Lent, and children's and adult costume contests that reward the creativity and ingenuity of the participants.
The big Carnival dances in the local bars and clubs are also one of the main attractions, with a festive atmosphere that lasts until the early hours of the morning, as locals and visitors come together in a unique celebration. With the sea as a backdrop and a climate that is typically milder than in other parts of Catalonia, the Platja d'Aro Carnival has become a benchmark for fun and cultural expression in the region.
In short, the Platja d'Aro Carnival is a vibrant and traditional festival, where creativity, fun and community spirit come together to create an unforgettable experience, both for those who actively participate and for those who simply enjoy its unique atmosphere.
The Platja d'Aro Carnival is one of the most emblematic festivals in the town and on the Costa Brava, and also one of the most popular.
