Valldaro mini train

A train line was opened in 1892, linking Sant Feliu de Guíxols to Girona and connecting the city and the Costa Brava. It was initially built to transport cork to Girona for it to be sold there, but, over time, it made a large contribution to the development of tourism in the Vall d'Aro (firstly S'Agaró, where there was a ferry specifically serving bathers visiting the Banys de Sant Pol, and then Platja d'Aro).

There was a station in each town the train passed through. Here we can see the old Castell d'Aro station (currently the municipality's mountain bike centre).

The train line was used until 1969, when the advent of the car made the journey to Girona much faster, leading the train to fall into disuse and the tracks to be definitively closed.

The old route of the Carrilet is now made up of Vies Verdes (Greenways), along which cyclists can take the same journey as the train.

Locomotive number 5, the last one to complete the journey from Sant Feliu de Guíxols to Girona, is preserved in the Station Park.

The Vall d'Aro Mini Train Association has restored and collected different materials related to the world of railways since 1995. On Sundays and public holidays, the association offers children tours on mini trains around the Station Park, recalling the municipality's railway past.
